The 'Sports Activity Coupe' recieved criticism, but sales success has surpassed BMW's expectations
With 545 vehicles already delivered within 10 months in Australia, the sales success of the X6 SUV has even surpassed BMW’s expectations.
The full-size, ‘Sports Activity Coupe’ – as BMW calls it – received criticism from some sectors of the motoring media who thought it was too big and too restricted in offering just four seats.
However the buying public does not agree with the scribes and the ‘niche’ X6 has outsold cars such as the Fiat 500, Jaguar XF, Lexus IX F, Mazda MX5, Mercedes-Benz CLS, Audi A6 and Volvo C30. In fact 40 per cent of X6 customers were new to the BMW marque (‘conquest’ sales as the industry calls them) – which further rubs salt into the wounds of the journalists.
BMW Australia claims the X6 has outsold its closest competitor, the Porsche Cayenne, by almost 20 per cent.
Car Showroom plans to soon test the X6 which is available with a choice of three twin-turbo engines – V8 and six-cylinder petrol and V6 diesel.
And like many Australian customers, we can’t wait to try the upcoming high-performance X6 M model which BMW Australia will launch in the third quarter of this year.
