Volkswagen has unveiled a facelifted range of its top-selling Caddy light commercial van.
Priced from $21,990, the big news for the new Caddy is more modern styling with the latest Volkswagen ‘family’ front end featuring standard daytime running lights and the latest range of petrol and diesel engines. No changes to the model lineup which includes short and long-wheelbase versions of the van and Caddy Life people mover.
Continuing the Volkswagen global trend, the engines have downsized for greater fuel-efficiency.
There are two turbocharged 1.2-litre petrol engines - entry-level models with 63kW/160Nm, or there is a 77kW/175Nm version which returns fuel economy of 7.0l/100kms (over 14 per cent better than the previous model).
For diesels, the choice is a 1.6-litre with 75kW/250Nm or a 2.0-litre with 103kW/320Nm. The 1.6-litre diesel is impressive with fuel economy as low as 5.8l/100kms.
Drive is to the front wheels via five/six-speed manual transmission or six/seven-speed version of Volkswagen’s excellent dual-clutch DSG automatic and ESP is standard on all models.
Inside the caddy has gained some extra luxury thanks to new seat fabrics and steering wheels (leather for the Caddy Maxi Life), and new instruments.
On the options list are adaptive cornering lights and satellite navigation with voice control.
Cargo space remains a standout for the Volkswagen Caddy – up to 3880 litres.
