The Mercedes-Benz CLS – the original, and in our eyes still the best, four-door coupe – has been updated with a new front-end and an even better interior.
Technically things get even more interesting with a new engine and new nine-speed automatic transmission plus ‘Multibeam LED’ headlights.
Under the bonnet, the CLS400 features a new 245kW/480Nm bi-turbo 3.0-litre V6, while the CLS550 adopts the 4.6-litre biturbo V8 with 300kW/600Nm.
Benz’ nine-speed automatic transmission is a world-first in this league and while the CLS marks its debut, the nine-speeder will be rolled-out to other models.
Styling sees (as well as those new front lights), a new chrome diamond radiator grille, new front bumper with larger air intakes and darkened tail-lights.
And on the inside look for a new 8.0-inch colour screen, fewer buttons and even great levels of luxury.
And while Mercedes-Benz Australia is still finalising local specifications, we know North American versions of the 2015 model year CLS will also score updated navigation systems (Garmin Map Pilot in CLS400 and Comand Online in CLS550) and extra safety features such as Collision Prevention Assist Plus.
