Mercedes-Benz is planning to bid farewell to their second-generation (W218) CLS-Class, the four-door coupe having been introduced in 2010 after superseding the first CLS that lasted from 2004. But before a new model breaks cover, Benz has sentimentally rolled out the CLS Final Edition.

Available as both coupe and Shooting Brake body styles, the CLS Final Edition has the exterior flourishes courtesy of the previously optional AMG Line pack: a front apron, rear apron, front grille with diamond-shaped inserts, sportier exhaust tips and 19-inch AMG wheels.

Curiously, Mercedes-Benz aren’t limiting this Final Edition units in the least. They instead will be offering the pack, which costs roughly €8211 (or $12,000 AUD), to pretty much every variant of the current CLS no matter the engine selection of trim level as an optional extra.

The cabin upholstery is now black leather with white stitching and there are smatterings of the grippy Dinamica microfiber material such as on the steering wheel, which is now flat-bottomed. There are now standard steel sport pedals and matte-chromed shift paddles to operate the 9G-Tronic automatic transmission.

There’s also an new infotainment system that takes from Mercedes-Benz’s more recent Command interface on the C-Class and E-Class. Speaking of which, with the widespread rollout of Benz’s mid-tier saloon almost complete, the next-generation CLS upon which will be based on the W213 E-Class should see a released date pegged somewhere in late 2016 to early 2017, continuing the six-year model cycle.
