SUVs have been giving the station wagons a hard time in recent years, but here’s the start of the fightback – the stunning Mercedes-Benz CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake.
The evocatively-styled Shooting Brake brings back a European style from generations ago (Jaguar has also developed an XF Shooting Brake) and trust Mercedes-Benz and AMG to give it a performance kick.
In the case of the CLS 63 AMG that kick is in the form of the 386kW-410kW/700-800Nm 5.5-litre biturbo V8 engine, driving through the Speedshift MCT seven-speed automatic transmission. The 410kW/800Nm version is the ‘Performance Pack’.
But of course the big deal is the style. ‘Benz has taken the CLS four-door coupe and turned it into a Shooting Brake-style wagon with the drop-dead gorgeous looks you only get from Mercedes-Benz and AMG.
Naturally the CLS 63 AMG gets the full suite of AMG goodies – from the external and internal styling enhancements to the optional ceramic brakes.
And with the AMG Performance Studio deliver design extras like a timber luggage compartment floor, your 1550-litres of luggage will travel in style.
Mercedes-Benz Australia will launch the CLS Shooting Brake later this year.
