Jaguar’s brilliant XKR-S has surprised by winning the 2011 Sports Car Of The Year award from Germany’s Auto Bild magazine.
The British-built Jaguar XKR-S secured 14.3 per cent of the vote to beat local stars the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG and Audi RS5 in a field of more than 170 vehicles.
As part of the test, Auto Bild lapped a Jaguar XKR-S around Germany famed Nurburgring race circuit in 7mins 51secs.
Powered by Jaguar’s superb 5.0-litre supercharged V8 engine, the XKR-S is without doubt one of the best-ever British sports cars and is proof positive of the transformation of the ‘Big Cat’ brand.
“Winning the first prize in a segment dominated by premium German competitors makes us particularly proud. The vote for the Jaguar XKR-S proves that Jaguar’s desire to build powerful but beautiful cars resonates extremely well with those who have a passion for sports and performance cars,” explained Jaguar’s executive director Mike Wright.
