And, taking aim at its direct rival - the $63,400 Mercedes-Benz CLA250 Sport - the Audi S3 ups the ante with more grunt (206kW/380Nm to 155kW/350Nm) and Quattro all-wheel-drive.
Not one body panel is shared with the Audi S3 Sportback and the S3 actually has a 6.0mm shorter wheelbase and 25mm lower ride height than the regular Audi A3 sedan.
Combine that 206kW/380Nm, six-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission, Quattro all-wheel-drive and a total weight of 1,450kgs (Audi claims the lightest in-class) and the S3 sedan will get you from zero to 100km/h in 5.0 seconds (6.7 seconds for the ‘Benz CLA250 Sport).
Specifications are impressive – MMI navigation, 18-inch alloy wheels, ‘S’ bodykit and suspension, Nappa leather sports seats and the usual flat-bottom sports steering wheel.
A $4,990 ‘S’ performance package adds Bang & Olufsen audio, 19-inch alloy wheels, S Sports seats, ‘S’ design brakes, Audi magnetic ride suspension and LED headlights.
