First preliminary official photos of the all-new seventh-generation Volkswagen Golf have been released ahead of its unveiling at the Paris Motor Show and Australian launch next year.

The all-new Golf is longer, wider and lower than the current model as Volkswagen strives to maximize fuel-efficiency. At 4255mm, it’s 56mm longer overall. Width has grown by 13mm and the roofline is 28mm lower.

Debuting the Volkswagen Group’s new MQB platform, the all-new Golf is 100kgs lighter than its predecessor.

Immediately apparent are the striking new front-end with a narrower grille and outstanding new ‘hawkeye’ headlights.

The side view shows a more athletic look with bold character lines running along the doors and a revised C-pillar which retains the hallmark ‘Golf-style’.

All-change inside and the good news is headlined by an extra 20mm of front leg-room and a 15mm gain in the rear. Shoulder room is also enhanced.

Visually the enhanced interior of the all-new Volkswagen Golf certainly steps-up from the current model with a contemporary look and more driver-focus (the centre stack angled towards the driver). The touch-screen ranges in size from 5.8-inches to 8.0-inches – the latter including as new satellite navigation system modeled on smartphone operations.

And Volkswagen has swapped the Golf to an electronic parking brake which has enabled a complete re-do of the centre console.

Luggage capacity is boosted to 380-litres and European models gain a fold-flat front passenger seat which enables Volkswagen Golf owners can tote items up 2.14-metres in length.

As expected with the Volkswagen Group’s most important single model, technology gets a major boost with the all-new Golf scoring adaptive cruise control, ‘Pre-Crash’ safety system and an updated ‘Park Assist’.

More details will emerge in Paris, but expect a range of engines to include 1.2-litre, 1,6-litre and 2.0-litre turbo-diesels plus a new 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine with cylinder deactivation (it runs on two-cylinders) delivering fuel consumption as low as 4.8l/100kms.
