And we’re getting the biggest allocation of them… in the world.

There is an undeniable but also unexplainable connection between Australians and performance cars. We buy a greater percentage of hotted-up versions of anything than anyone else, because somehow for us, a car isn’t complete unless it’s capable of crackling, snarling, and growling its way to the national speed limit (and not a single click over).

While pricing “will be announced shortly,” Volkswagen’s local office is very excited to announce that the hottest Golf GTI ever, the TCR, will be coming to Australia in another 5-months. Our market is being allocated no less than 300 of them, all in 5-door spec, which is the largest market allocation the world over. Cool, eh?

The TCR will be a DSG-only proposition, with power coming from the 213kW/380Nm 2.0-litre mill nicked from the Golf R. There is a limited-slip differential to try and keep everything under control though which, to be fair, would be a pretty difficult job without it.

VW claims that 100km/h will come about in just 5.6-seconds, before it’ll eventually max out at 250km/h.

European specification of the hottest GTI ever are pretty interesting, with things like a specially-tuned exhaust system, optional roof & mirror caps in a contrasting colour, and even a gorgeous ‘Pure Grey’ hue. You can get 18- or 19-inch wheels, the latter of which coming with upgraded brakes, and adaptive Dynamic Chassis Control for greater capability across a multitude of situations.

Volkswagen Australia will clarify price and specification closer to the launch date, which we’ll be very very excited to cover. But until then, stay locked on CarShowroom as we bring you more updates as they come.
