This is the factory-developed Volkswagen Golf racer destined for the Touringcar Racer International Series (TCR).
While this is mostly a European series, a couple of rounds are in this part of the world so Volkswagen fans should consult with their travel agents.
TCR is a support race for the Singapore F1 Grand Prix on 20 September and will also feature at the F3 races in Macau on 22 November.
The Golf racer is a close relative to the SEAT Leon Cup Racer and sits on a modified version of the MQB platform (although 40cm wider than a production Golf).
Under the bonnet is a motorsport-enhanced version of the turbocharged 2.0-litre engine fitted to the Volkswagen Golf R – driving through a six-speed DSG transmission and steering wheel paddle-shifters it delivers 243kW/410Nm.
Styling sees some massive carbon-fibre aero aids and 18-inch race wheels.
Inside is the latest safety cell technology with the driver seated in a race seat with integrated head restraints.
Volkswagen will evaluate the Golf racer during remaining rounds of the TCR and is contemplating its own customer one-make racing series.
