People of Australia listen very carefully it’s time to take a stand a let the folks in Wolfsburg, Germany know that they must put the Volkswagen Golf R 400 in to production.
The R department at Volkswagen has used the Beijing Motor Show to show off their skills in building a high-power and customised project. Using the same 2.0-litre engine found in the Golf R, the Golf R 400 at 294kW has an extra 73 kW and 70 Nm of torque, making for 450 Nm in total, available from 2,400 to 6,000 rpm.
Based on the Golf R the Golf R 400 can sprint from standstill to 100km/h in just 3.9 seconds, a whole second faster than the Golf R. The increased power is achieved by using a turbocharger with a higher maximum charge pressure and reinforced crankcase.
The Golf R 400 is 40mm wider thanks to the flared wheel arches that pay pay homage to 1988 Rallye Golf G60. The Golf R 400 sits on special addition 19” Cadiz wheels that have been modified to include air vanes, helping to cool the reinforced braking system.
Both front and rear bumpers have been redesigned to included are vents and splitters at the rear Volkswagen have returned to the two centrally mounted tailpipes.
Inside are motorsport shell seats with integrated head restraints and belt openings. These are upholstered in cross-quilted panels covered in Alcantara, and ‘carbon leather’, as are the two individual rear seats. Stitching throughout the interior is in contrasting ‘Lemon Yellow’.
At this stage there is no plans to put the Golf R 400 in to production - Carshowroom is willing to purchase one via Kickstarter now - are you?
