Volkswagen’s much talked-about Golf Estate (wagon) finally appeared in production form at the Geneva Motor Show. Like the rest of the Golf 7 range, the wagon version uses Volkswagen Group’s new MQB platform so tips the scales 105kgs lighter than the previous model.
Most importantly, cargo space is significantly boosted over the previous model – 605-litres with the rear seat in-place or 1620-litres when folded. And while there’s extra cargo space, clever design sees the Golf wagon only 307mm longer than the hatchback models.
In Europe the engine choice comprises 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre turbo-diesels and 1.2-litre and 1.4-litre petrol powerplants. Europe also gets a 4MOTION (4WD) model.
No Australian details yet, but the Golf Estate goes on-sale in Britain (also right-hand-drive) in July.
