Suzuki has backed calls by the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) for Government incentives to reward buyers of fuel-efficient vehicles.
The company agrees with the FCAI’s claim that Australia was in danger of becoming an eco-car backwater.
“In Australia at the moment, the only customers who can benefit from a decision to purchase a ‘green’ car are those who can afford vehicles costing between $60,000 and $70,000,” explained Suzuki Australia General Manager, Tony Devers. “There is zero incentive for people wanting to purchase a much less expensive car that is even better for the environment.”
Suzuki’s dynamic $12,490, three-cylinder Alto returns average fuel consumption as low as 4.7l/100kms and its exhaust C02 emissions are just 110g/km.
“It’s time to get serious about greening the industry by linking subsidies to efficiency standards and supporting fuel-efficient vehicles like the Alto - and the array of low emission vehicles soon to hit our shores – with real incentives,” Mr Devers added.
