Still the cheapest way to go off-roading.

2019 Suzuki Jimny – Launch Event

Hamatsu-based carmaker Suzuki has launched its all-new Jimny overlander on our shores, bringing the latest-generation of function-over-form all-terrain vehicle to what’s been described as the most hirsute & trying environment on the planet. Suzuki’s very confident in the appeal of the Jimny and rightfully so – with order books piling up and getting fat, the company’s specced out the sole Jimny offering on our shores generously, making the little car a lot less of a compromise to own.

“I am extremely proud to launch the all-new Jimny in Australia, a global winning recipe that dates back to the 1970s. Five years in development has captured over 40 years of heritage that makes this vehicle an icon in the Australian 4x4 landscape.” – Michael Pachota, General Manager (Automobiles), Suzuki Australia

The exterior of the Jimny is true to the recipe of form following function, with a face inspired by the car’s past, replete with a ‘face plate’ housing the grille & standard LED headlights. Beneath the flared wheel arches sit a set of 15-inch alloys, while the rear sees the continued fitment of a spare tire on the hatch. Not to worry though, as a reversing camera is fitted as standard on the new Jimny.

The interior is much the same, though the highly-functional design belies the smarts that lie beneath. All cars come as standard with Dual Sensor Brake Support, hill-descent control, lane departure warning, high-beam assist, ESP, and six-airbags as standard, while convenience technology encompasses the 7-inch infotainment system (with built-in GPS and smartphone mirroring capabilities), bluetooth connectivity, cruise control, and digital HVAC controls.

In the middle sits the transmission (obviously), where you can choose between a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic to channel all 75kW of power to the wheels. Speaking of which, the new Jimny comes as standard with Suzuki’s AllGrip Pro 4WD system which allows for convenient & reliable switching between 2-high, 4-high, and 4-low gear ratios.

The Jimny can be had in green, grey & white single tones, or yellow/black, blue/black, or off-white/black dual-tone finishes, though metallic colours attract a $500 premium and two-tone finishes are billed at $1250.
