If its concept cars for next month’s Tokyo Motor Show are a guide, Suzuki isn’t about to let go of its small car strategy any time soon.
All four of Suzuki’s Tokyo Motor Show stars are ‘compact’.
Best looker is the ‘Crosshiker’ – a coupe crossover powered by a 1.0-litre, three cylinder engine.
Said to be an evolution of the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show ‘Regina’ concept car, the Suzuki Crosshiker is lightweight and…erm, some may say ‘stylish’.
The Suzuki X-LANDER concept sits on the familiar Jimny platform and even uses the 1.3-litre petrol engine and existing 4x4 chassis architecture. But there’s a twist – the X-LANDER’s engine has a hybrid drive system – Suzuki’s first.
Meanwhile, the Suzuki Hustler and sloping roof Hustler Coupe are the next generation of the Nisan Cube/Toyota Rukus style of boxy small cars immensely popular in Japan.
