Suzuki Australia has added a new member to their family of Vitara SUVs, offering a new diesel-powered RT-X variant that’s only available as a 4WD starting at $35,990.

The new diesel burner retains pretty much everything you’ve come to expect from the regular petrol Vitara, but now buyers opting for the top range Vitara can now choose the RT-X Diesel which sits at the top of the Vitara range, coming in at roughly $3,000 more expensive than the S Turbo 4WD.

The 1.6-litre engine also uses the variable geometry turbocharger that Suzuki slotted into their petrol engines, yielding a low fuel consumption figure of 4.9-litres/100km while producing 88kW and 320Nm.

Suzuki has also equipped their new top spec Vitara with leather seats with suede inserts, 17-inch polished alloy wheels, panoramic sunroof, LED daytime running lights, and a touchscreen infotainment system with satellite navigation and Apple CarPlay support – though that isn’t exclusive to the RT-X diesel.

Suzuki Australia General Manager Automobiles, Andrew Moore said: The addition of turbo engines to the exciting Vitara has seen demand for the vehicle grow even further.  We’ve listened to our customers who have been asking for a diesel option, so are excited we can deliver. By adding this diesel engine variant to the line up, the Vitara now has a comprehensive range of engine and price options to suit any customer.”

“With the popularity of Vitara rapidly growing plus the introduction of our first small segment hatch, Baleno, to compete with Corolla and i30, Suzuki’s growth is set to continue.”

“Now that Turbo and Diesel have been added to Vitara, along with the new Baleno to come with a turbo engine and a larger naturally aspirated petrol engine set for Australia (than what was released this week in Europe), Suzuki will have some of the sportiest performers for small segment passenger and SUV customers.”
