Surprisingly strong take-up for the small electric hatch.
French marque Renault was pleasantly surprised that, after introducing the all-electric Zoe compact hatch in late 2017 for fleet & company purchases, the little EV had racked up sales that surpassed their initial expectations. Not only had it done that, but the increasingly-frequent sightings of Zoes in and around town meant that it was drumming up significant interest among private buyers. And so, naturally, Renault’s now made the Zoe available to private buyers for the first time.
“At Renault Australia, we’re excited to be taking this step in the introduction of electric vehicles in Australia. We have taken a measured approach to our roll-out of electric vehicles locally, in line with customer demand. Since late-2017 we’ve seen demand from a passionate group of customers who would like to purchase a Renault electric vehicle, and we’re thrilled to now be able to offer this.” – Andrew Moore, Managing Director, Renault Australia
The Zoe will soon be joined by the Kangoo EV, though they haven’t yet detailed a timeline for the latter car. The Zoe arrives on our market in Life and Intens variants, priced at $47,490 (or $51,990 drive-away) and $49,490 (or $54,540 drive-away) respectively. White & grey fabric upholstery will come as standard, while niceties like parking sensors, reversing camera, leather steering wheel, automatic headlights & wipers, as well as a reversing camera will be reserved for top-spec Intens cars.
Only four dealers will sell the Zoe presently, namely Sydney City Renault, Barry Bourke Renault in Melbourne, Unley Renault in Adelaide, and Melville Renault in Perth. In the next phase of Renault’s EV rollout, a second dealer in Melbourne and Sydney will be added, as well as trained dealers & service centres in Brisbane, Canberra, and Hobart.
