In Europe we’ve seen pedestrians paying scant regard to Renault’s diminutive Twizy electric commuter vehicles which can be driven on tiny cobblestone streets where vehicles are not normally allowed.

Now Renault has a beefy Twizy to combat that pedestrian ‘bullying’ – the racy Twizy Renault Sport F1 concept.

Tying-in the French marque’s Grand Prix racing efforts, the Twizy Renault Sport F1 concept sits on race car wheels and is adorned with a flashing F1-style rain light, large front splitter, side pods, a rear wing and diffuser plus an F1-type steering wheel.

And it’s not all looks – the Twizy Renault Sport F1 concept runs a KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System) which instantly boost power by 600 per-cent to around 72kW – enough to propel the all-electric vehicle from zero too 100km/h in about the same time as the racy Megane R.S. All of that required a 1:3.6 reduction gear to handle the Twizy’s standard 36,000rpm plus the extra 10,000rpm coming via KERS.

The only downside is the extra equipment is stored where the rear seat would normally be making the Twizy Renault Sport F1 concept a single-seater.

Renault will showcase the vehicle throughout Europe as proof of the possible connections between F1 and road cars which are actually emissions-free.
