Renault’s Mid-Size Talisman Ruled-Out For Australia

You’ve got to say Renault’s chief stylist Laurens Van Den Acker can work his crayons with the best of them – check-out the new Renault Talisman sedan released overnight in France.

But don’t get too attached because it’s an unlikely starter in right-hand-drive and thus our market.

Renault says the Talisman will replace both the Latitude (made in Korea and sold in Australia) and the Laguna (a great car which is sadly not sold in Australia) as its global D-segment vehicle. Well, global in left-hook markets that is.

Makes perfect sense here of course with the likes of Hyundai i40/Sonata, Mazda6, Toyota Camry and Ford Mondeo dominating the mid-size market – even Renault’s alliance partner Nissan has scaled back its aspirations for the Altima.

It’s a shame though because the Renault Talisman looks the part, offers petrol or diesel engines and boats impressive levels of standard kit.
