What a buzzkill.
Have you been thinking about adding a bright-yellow RenaultSport hatchback to your life, the sort of thing that’ll goad you to take the long road home and get dangerously close to losing your license? If you were, you might want to take note, because the company would like to throw a bucket of iced water over your daydream.
Renault Australia might’ve trumpeted its 5-year/unlimited-mileage warranty for the last four years, but it seems that that song will now stop short of covering Renault Sport cars. RS cars from May 1st 2018 will be covered by a 3-year warranty (also with unlimited miles), in a move that sources say are merely to put the company in line with global Renault Sport warranty norms.
The 5-year warranty offer was previously extended to all of Renault’s passenger cars, beginning in 2014, where only their commercial vehicles were given a different 3-year/200,000km warranty coverage.
What’s worth noting is that the Clio RS and Megane RS (outgoing-gen and impending-gen) used to be offered with the same 5-year warranty as the rest of Renaults cars, that put it on par with competitors like the Volkswagen Golf GTi and Skoda Octavia RS. Hyundai even went a step further with its nascent i30N hot hatch, with its 5-year warranty even covering non-competitive track usage too.
With this development, would the three-year warranty perhaps wane your affections towards Renault’s RS hatchbacks? Enough perhaps to get you to buy into one of their competitors? Let us know in the comments below.
