French giant Renault has announced a partnership with British sports car specialist Caterham Group.
Under the arrangement, Caterham will acquire 50 per-cent ownership of Automobiles Alpine Renault and a new company will commence operations from 1 January – Societe des Automobiles Alpine Caterham.
Future vehicles, with their own distinctive character will be sold by Alpine and Caterham Cars. Manufacturing will take place at the current Alpine plant in Dieppe, France.
Caterham, based in Hingham, Norfolk, UK and best known for its sports cars and Renault-powered Formula One team , is owned by Sir Tony Fernandes whose other company is AirAsia.
The plan for the new joint venture calls for both low volume and series production sports cars, drawing on the expertise of Caterham Cars, Renault and Renault Sport Technologies.
