Opel’s elegantly-styled Cascada mid-size cabriolet goes on-sale in Europe early next year but is not as yet lock-in to join the local lineup.
A European rival for the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet (which is currently being tested by Car Showroom – watch for our review), the Opel Cascada looks superb and, measuring 4697mm in length and 1840mm in width, is said to accommodate four adults in comfort.
Unlike the E-Class, the Opel Cascada’s soft-top folds into the boot, decreasing luggage space from 350-litre to 280-litres (‘Benz has a hard plastic storage ‘bin’ into which the roof folds). In Europe, the Opel Cascada can be ordered with a choice of three roof colours.
The Opel Cascada runs the ‘HiPerStrut’ suspension from the Insignia OPC with adaptive chassis control.
Specifications sound impressive with Opel Eye camera-based traffic sign recognition, blind spot warning, lane departure warning, forward collision alert and rear-view camera all on the list.
At launch, European customers can choose from three engines – two petrol and one diesel – and all drive through either six-speed transmissions (manual or automatic). Opel Cascada kicks-off with a 88kW/220Nm 1.4-litre petrol or you can step-up to a 103Kw/220Nm 1.6-litre. The 2.0-litre diesel is good for 121kW/380Nm.
