Most are content with blowing out some candles and a piece of cake, but Opel celebrated its most recent birthday by re-opening the Dudenhofen Test Centre in Germany.
And while Opel has just launched in Australia, General Motors’ German brand is celebrating its 150th anniversary.
Opel used the occasion, in front of 40,000 employees, family and friends to re-open the test facility following a €28.5 million upgrade.
Headline act for Opel’s new R&D facility is a new 40-degree banked circuit.
“The opening of the high-speed circuit is a milestone for our Test Centre,” revealed Opel boss Mike Ableson. “This is a clear sign of our commitment to the long-term future of our development facilities in Germany. The extensions are a significant contribution to further increasing the quality of our products and quickly bringing new and affordable innovations to our customers.”
Opel began automotive manufacturing in 1899 but the company was regarded as starting in 1862 when a young Adam Opel started building sewing machines in his father’s shop.
