Mercedes-Benz has ramped-up the technology yet again with the new generation GL-Class full-size SUV.
Amongst the innovations are a new parking package which provides automatic operation for entering and exiting a parking space and the self-explanatory ‘Crosswind Assist’ (a feature those who tow trailers can vouch for).
The latest Mercedes-Benz GL-Class has been launched in Europe with a choice of two powerplants – the GL 350 (six-cylinder 3.0-litre diesel with 193kW/620Nm) and GL 500 (twin-turbocharged V8 4.7-litre petrol with 305kW/600Nm). Drive is via Mercedes’ 7G-TRNIC PLUS automatic transmission and 4MATIC all-wheel-drive.
Technical improvements mean on average the latest Mercedes-Benz GL-Class is 19 per cent more fuel-efficient that the previous model.
Looks retain the hallmark GL-Class purposefulness but with some modern touches appropriate for a large, luxury SUV (such as the chrome0-finished under-body guard at the rear). There’s new LED lighting (including DRLs and fibre-optic rear lights), a large roof spoiler and new-design 18-spoke alloy wheels (optional wheels run up to 21 inches).
And of course there is a sporty AMG kit with 21-inch AMG five-spoke alloy wheels and more.
Inside are seats for seven, new instruments including am 11.4cm colour display between the main gauges and a large central screen for the navigation and audio. Egress has been improved thanks to EASY-ENTRY (with optional electronic operation) on both sides.
Cargo capacity grows to 2300-litres.
Underneath, Mercedes-Benz has wrought massive changes and now claims the latest GL-Class offers NVH levels so low they rival the S-Class luxury sedan.
Mercedes-Benz Australia will reveal local details when available.
