Did someone say ASX?
Mitsubishi will be unveiling a new concept at the upcoming 2017 Geneva Motor Show in March. The Japanese automaker has had a happy knack for showing off SUV design and/or engineering studies at motor shows with varying levels of production viability.
This time, however, might be the first time Mitsubishi will be previewing the a model that could quite likely make it into their actual showroom SUV line-up. Right now, that comprises of the ASX crossover, the Outlander (and Outlander PHEV), Pajero Sport, and Pajero.
The teaser didn’t specify whether this will be an entirely new model to slot in alongside the current crop of vehicles or a new generation of an existing nameplate. Judging by just how many offerings the manufacturer has, we’d wager it could be an all-new ASX we’re looking at here.
The current ASX has been with us since 2010, and while there are certainly model cycles that have lasted longer, Mitsubishi rolling out a more competitive offering here will certain help them battle such newer rivals as the Honda HR-V, Toyota C-HR, Mazda CX-3, Nissan Qashqai, Peugeot 3008, and Subaru XV.
From the dark teaser image, Mitsubishi seems to want to accentuate the concept’s wedge-shape belt line, mid-level character line, steeply raked rear window, flared front and rear fenders, long wheelbase with short rear overhang, and an overall coupe-like SUV shape. More on this as it develops.
