Potential Rolls-Royce Dawn rival to debut at Pebble Beach.
Last year, German luxury auto manufacturer Mercedes-Benz revealed the stunning Vision Maybach 6 grand-tourer concept at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Sporting a 2+2 seating arrangement and an entirely-electric powertrain, the Vision Maybach 6 was designed as an ultra-luxury long-distance cruiser, aimed directly at the likes of Rolls-Royce’s Wraith coupé (which is basically the same thing, sans that electric powertrain).
It’s hard to follow up such a jaw-dropping showing year-after-year, but a video from the Instagram account of Mercedes design boss Gordon Wagener has us waging a bet that it’ll do just that at this years’ Concours. The Vision Maybach 6 may have appeared first as a fixed-head grand-touring coupé, but the 2017 Pebble Beach show will see the debut of a cabriolet variant of the Vision Maybach 6, aimed directly at the likes of the Rolls-Royce Dawn and Bentley Continental GTC.
Insiders have told Autocar that the Vision Maybach 6 (in both coupé and convertible forms), should they go into production, may be put together by a “bespoke coach building operation” that would open up the doors to various customisations and options to potential owners, much like how (again) Rolls-Royce has done, culminating in bespoke commissions like the Sweptail.
The brands’ design boss Gorden Wagener alluded to the debut of the concept convertible in an Instagram post, going on to say that it’ll be a “surprising” entrant at the Concours, all the while with a super-cool looking model of the Vision Maybach 6 coupe in the background. The 2017 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance will also see the debut of BMW’s Z4 concept, ensuring that there won’t be a lack of stunning drop-top concept cars this year.
