There’s no shortage of envy-inducing four-wheel additions to various police forces all over the world – Dubai comes to mind immediately, then again us Aussies do have some fun here and there.

The most recent addition to that list of fast police cruisers is what the Italian Carabinieri took delivery of late last week: a 376kW Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio Verde. The car will operate primarily on the streets of Rome and Milan, presumably because that’s where it’s stylish looks will be most appreciated.

There aren’t any mentioned tweaks to the 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 engine co-developed with Ferrari producing 376kW and 600Nm, enough grunt to propel the four-door super saloon to 100km/h from rest in 3.9 seconds and on to a top speed of 306km/h.

Interestingly, although not entirely shocking, is that the Italian military police force received a Giulia QV fitted with a six-speed manual transmission as opposed to the 8-speed ZF automatic box. More fun during a high speed chase but also more fatiguing during while roaming the congested, often narrow streets of Rome.

Hopefully, however, the Giulia QV won’t be involved with more mundane traffic duties. They say its tasks will be around escorting VIPs in a convoys and such.

Naturally, there are special additions to the car including a roof-mounted set of LED rotator lights and special police-spec paint. Inside, there special compartments for a police radio, storage for weapons, tablet with passenger side mount for accessing police databases and such as well as a defibrillator.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) have inked a partnership with the Italian police to be the official vehicle supplier. This will result in the delivery of roughly 800 more cars and SUVs from the Group’s line-up, starting with this Giulia.
