To further promote and/or enforce better safety out on the roads of Victoria, the police department has gained a very useful – if not enviable – tool: a new Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S Coupe 4MATIC, which they’ve affectionately chose to name Guardian.

It was unveiled earlier and will go on to be an operational highway patrol car and will tour various events to promote in-car safety features across the state over the next year or so.

The sports SUV is powered by a 5.5-litre bi-turbo V8 producing 430kW, which reaches all four wheels through an AMG SpeedShift Plus 7G-Tronic seven-speed automatic transmission. Plenty powerful enough to fight crime, we reckon.

Present during the unveil was Assistant Commissioner Doug Fryer, who emphasised the importance of buying the safest car they can afford when considering multiple vehicle purchase options. He said:

“Death and serious injuries on Victorian roads could be reduced by a third overnight if everyone was driving the safest cars they can afford. We’re not saying that everyone needs to rush out and buy the latest and greatest but we need people to prioritise safety over leather seats and shiny wheels. Your car should be a guardian for your safety and the safety of your family much like police are a guardian for everyone in the community.”

Of course, at CarShowroom, you can peruse and compare the detailed information we have on your next new car at our own digital Showroom.

Victoria Police’s new Guardian will be on display at the Industry and Innovation Precinct during the upcoming 2016 Rolex Australian Formula One Grand Prix.
