Ready to take on one of the meatier parts of the segment.
American marque Ford have more than just an EV coming up, it seems. While the EV tried (and failed) to make use of the Mach 1 moniker, the other new car should have little resistance bringing back the name it intends to wear. The ‘Puma’ badge will be returning to roads pretty soon it seems, and it’ll be affixed to a crossover that’ll sit between the EcoSport and Escape when it arrives.
Slated to be built in Romania, the existence of the Puma was first highlighted by analytics firm Inovev, before then being confirmed by Autocar India. The latter source indicates that Asian markets (including us) are likely being considered for introduction of the new Puma.
By going with the Puma name, we’d like to believe that the upcoming crossover will feature a healthy dose of driver involvement. The Puma, if one can remember it, was quite a tidy little sports car when it arrived on the scene in the late-90s, and managed to spawn cars like the Racing Puma (the blue car pictured here) before it was axed in the early-00s. The Puma was a great source of pride for Ford, particularly in the form of the fans it garnered from within the Junior World Rally Championship.
When the Puma crossover arrives, it’ll go head-on with cars like the Hyundai Kona, Volkswagen T-Roc, and Kia Stonic. There’s no word yet from Ford’s local office regarding the Puma but, as news drops, you’ll be sure to find it here on CarShowroom.
