Audi has startled the automotive world by completing a lap at racing speeds of the Hockenheim Grand Prix circuit in Germany with an Audi RS 7 with no driver.
Audi calls it ‘Piloted Driving’ and the remarkable demonstration came during the weekend of the season finale of the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) race series.
The technology called for specially corrected GPS signals transmitted to the car via WiFi and 3D cameras in the car which filed the track on the run (this was compared to data in computers stored in the car.
