BMW Silently Gives The M3 A 2017 Facelift

BMW recently gave their 4 Series coupe and headlining M4 a facelift (or LCI - Life Cycle Impulse - in Bimmer-speak), leaving the M3 in the lurch slightly as the two popular high performance as one had been given a more chiseled face while the four door wasn’t.

The Munich automaker has now righted this imbalance by silently updating the M3 with the revised look of the M4, which are quite minimal if we’re honest. Only the very discerning will notice to tell this 2017 version and the slightly older one apart, especially out on the road.

In terms of details for these eagle eyed car spotters, there’s a subtly reshaped nose and bumper treatment with new headlamp housings with newer LED hexagonal illuminators within as well as new signature accents first seen on the new G30 5 Series

But there’s really nothing else outwardly visible. Approaching the car from the rear, and correctly identifying the newer unit will be nigh impossible. Under the bonnet, too, lies the same engine - unfettered - generating 317kW and 550Nm from its 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged straight-six. From a standstill, the M3 should still need just 4.1 seconds to shoot to 100km/h.

The updated M3 should be starting to roll out to dealers worldwide starting from March (and Australia before long), coinciding or being at least within the same time frame of the 4 Series’ Geneva Motor Show debut and release.
