This stunner is the BMW M4 GTS, a track day marvel limited to just 700 cars worldwide (including for the first time North America).
“We’ve taken a radical route with the set-up of the BMW M4 GTS to create a sports machine for the race track that delivers top-end dynamics and inspirational performance,” revealed BMW CEO Frank van Meel. “It allows us to demonstrate what is possible today with a road-legal car.”
For example the headlights – fully road legal and the world first application of OLED (organic light emitting diodes) rear lights.
Inside are lightweight carbon-fibre M bucket seats in Alcantara and Merino leather, three-point safety harnesses and racing style door pull loops.
The steering wheel is also trimmed in Alcantara as is the plastic shelf and panel which replace the rear seat.
On the options is a Clubsport Package which adds a roll bar in ‘Acid Orange’ and a race-spec six-point safety harness.
Power comes from a three-litre turbocharged six-cylinder engine which scores water injection to boost output to 368kW/600Nm.
A lightweight Titanium muffler exudes the required exhaust note.
Drive is via seven-speed M double-clutch transmission.
Underneath are 666M six-spoke alloy wheels (19-inch at the front and 20-inch at the rear), lightweight M carbon ceramic brakes and adjustable three-way M coilover suspension.
And of course there has been a focus on weight reduction and aerodynamics with extensive use of carbon fibre (for the roof, bonnet and adjustable front splitter while the bootlid is made from carbon-fibre reinforced plastic.
A carbon fibre diffuser and CFRP rear wing complete the package.
No word from BMW Australia on right-hand-drive models or if any M$ GTS models are headed this way.
