BMW Group Australia has announced that a portion of the limited run M3 “30 Year M3” editions, which are limited to 500 units produced total, will be headed for sale in Australia. The confirmation should come later in July, however the local allocation should be small.

The special M3 is, as the name suggests, meant to celebrate the M3’s 30-year history starting with the E30 M3 that was based on the 1986 model year BMW 3 Series until today’s current-generation F80 M3.

The M3 30 Years will be offered globally in two colours. However, units headed Down Under are believed to only be offered with the “Macao Blue” paint finish. As we’ve previously detailed, the car is technically very similar to the M3 Competition Pack.

As such, the car gains standard adaptive suspension, uprated spring and dampers, a stiffer anti-roll bar, carbon ceramic brakes, and active M-differential. There are other bits that set it further afield from the garden variety M3, too, such as the M4 GTS’ lightweight alloys, black chrome tail pipes, as well as a revised aero pack which includes new front splitter, rear diffuser and rear lip spoiler.

Inside, the dashboard has been given a carbon treatment that’s paired with M sports seats that are finished in Merino leather, an Alcantara-clad steering wheel, as well as unique badging to make sure the fact that this is a very special M3 does not escape anyone’s notice.

Just like the M3 Competition Pack, the 30 Years M3’s 3.0-litre turbocharged straight-six engine has been tuned to chuck out 335kW, getting it to 100km/h from rest in 4.0 seconds.
