Aston Martin Teases DBS Superleggera – Gallery

Venerated British sports car marque Aston Martin is going through something of a reinvention, with a new generation of cars packing first-for-marque features and drivetrains wrapped up in brand-new designs that are nothing short of sensational.

But through this process of evolution, Aston is being rightfully careful about not forgetting its past either. As a nod to its hallowed history, the company is bringing a nameplate that’s been in its portfolio since 1967, when it first adorned a model designed by William Towns and looking every bit a brute.

What nameplate is it you ask? DBS, of course.

As if the DBS name wasn’t venerated enough, it’ll be joined by another badge from the marque’s history, ‘Superleggera.’ That Italian badge has only found a home on Astons that have been pared back in the name of outright performance, and so the teaser of the upcoming DBS suggests that the resulting vehicle will be a properly potent bit of kit.

The DBS is the next model up for replacement after Aston ambitiously announced that it would seek to replace its entire portfolio of coupes as part of its ‘Second Century Plan.’ As has always been the way, the next-generation DBS will sit at the top of the Aston Martin product portfolio, and “feature the highest levels of performance, craftsmanship, and design.”

“When you hear the name DBS Superleggera, you know what it is. It’s the definitive Aston Martin Super GT. It’s an icon, a statement, and this one will be no different. We’ve pushed the boundaries of performance and design, to give this car a distinct character and ensure it’s worthy of the heritage and weight that this name carries.” — Marek Reichman, Chief Creative Officer, Aston Martin

Or the literal lack of weight the name designates, rather.
