Executive limousine drivers take note: long-wheelbase versions of the stunning all-new BMW 7 Series start at $238,000 for the 740iL and the range-topping 750iL is priced at $312,700.
Of course it’s not just the hired drivers who will be buying the 7 Series but operators who we have spoken to say with the demise of the local Holden Statesman/Caprice they have been waiting for BMW’s newcomer before deciding between it and the Audi A8 or Mercedes-Benz S-Class.
In fact the all-new BMW 7 Series starts at $217,500 for the 730d.
BMW says the newcomer gains more than $20,000 worth of equipment over the previous generation.
And of course it’s a technical masterpiece with items like Active Cruise Control including ‘Stop and Go’ function (excellent in city traffic), Active park Distance Control, Rear-View Camera, Parking Assistant, Surround View with 3D mode and Panorama View and Voice Control included as standard right from the entry-level 730d.
Powerplants are a 3.0-litre six-cylinder turbo-diesel for the 730d with 195kW/620Nm and, for the petrol models we have the 740i with a turbocharged 3.0-litre six-cylinder good for 240kW/450Nm or the 4.4-litre V8 with 330kW/650Nm for the 750i.
Underneath is where things get really stunning with the MW 7 series running a chassis from carbon Fibre Reinforced Plastic, steel and aluminium while the body too uses mixed materials – all to boost strength and reduce weight.
Inside the landmark new technology includes BMW Gesture Control for the iDrive system (3D sensors detect hand movements for control of the infotainment system) and BMW Display Key which has a range of 300-metres.
The lineup looks like this:
| 730d | $217,500 |
| 740i | $224,200 |
| 740iL | $238,000 |
| 750i | $289,600 |
| 750il | $312,700 |
