Another reason why Mazda’s CX-5 is a contender for ‘Best Medium SUV’ – Mazda’s hot-selling newcomer has been awarded the maximum five-star safety rating by Euro NCAP.

To secure a five-star rating under the tougher-for-2012 Euro NCAP guidelines, vehicles must better 75 per cent scores and the Mazda CX-5 excelled, posting 94 per cent for adult protection, 87 per cent for child protection and 86 per cent for ‘safety assist’. Mazda CX-5 also beat the new 60 per cent score for pedestrian protection.

As part of Mazda’s ground-breaking SKYACTIV technology – the CX-5 is the first new model to include all components – the SKYACTIV body includes high-tensile steels in 61 per cent of the bodyshell and 1800 MPa ultra-high tensile steel (the strongest ever used in a production car) in the bumpers.
