There has been reports that Volkswagen is readying some goodies to show off at the upcoming Paris Motor Show. Some, of course, will be the usual schtick of concepts and new technologies but a newer Golf might also be on the cards.
The current 7th generation Golf has been on the market since 2013 and Volkswagen could be eyeing the French venue to debut a midlife update to their popular benchmarking hatch.
A new batch of photos have emerged from Dutch site Autoblog.nl which shows the revised Golf in standard, GTI, and wagon versions. However, some inaccuracies and somewhat shoddy lines lead us to suspect that they might not be legitimate.
It does show a convincing rendition of what could be the 2017 Golf, which unsurprisingly doesn’t stray from the cues we’ve grown familiar with over the past two generations, at least. We see new headlamps housings that feature a revised illumination cluster, reshaped front and rear bumpers, and new wheels all-around.
The exterior renders were not accompanied by ones for the interior nor did any information emerge on what changes we can expect. Volkswagen might add a new digital instrument cluster much like Audi’s Virtual Cockpit to the more expensive Golf variants as well as a more expansive central infotainment unit and a decluttered centre stack because of it.
Only minor changes are expected for the newer car’s engines, though, and Volkswagen will likely focus on further improving their current crop of petrol and diesel motors before slowly moving their attention fully on their ambitious electrification plan.
We’ll have to wait until late September should VW release an official teaser for the new car or until the doors open at the Paris Motor Show for further info.
