The Volkswagen Golf R Wagon has been confirmed for Australia with Volkswagen Australia confirming the hot wagon will go on sale from October 2015.
First seen at the LA Motor Show in 2014 the Golf R Wagon is s powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged TSI petrol engine that develops 221kW from 5,500 to 6,200 rpm. Maximum torque of 380 Nm is available from just 1,800 rpm right up to 5,500 rpm and is transferred to the road via a standard six-speed dual-clutch gearbox (DSG) to the permanent 4MOTION all-wheel drive.
The Golf R wagon rides 20mm lower than the standard wagon and comes with progressive steering and a ESC sports mode. An option overseas is the DCC adaptive chassis control system with a driving profile selector that features a Race mode.
The Golf R Estate’s engine launches the wagon from 0 t0 100km/h in just 5.1 seconds, while top speed is electronically limited to 250km/h. When not trying to set 0 to 100 times the Golf R wagon consumes just 7.0 l/100 km – equating to CO2 emissions of 163 g/km.
On the outside the R-style body-coloured side sill panels distinguish the Golf wagon, along with R logos on the front bumpers and matt chrome door mirror caps. 18-inch ‘Cadiz’ alloy wheels are unique to R models matched with black-painted brake callipers with R logo.
Inside the Golf R Wagon the styling cues are taken from its hatchback counterpart, Alcantara upholstery, R logos on the seats and steering wheel. Like all modern VW’s you can expect the normal high level of standard equipment.
No local pricing or specifications have been confirmed for Australia but reports suggest a sub $60,000 price tag.
