Providing certain clues to the next Volkswagen Beetle Cabriolet, at the Beijing Motor Show, the German giant has revealed a topless version of the electric E-Bugster concept vehicle. The hardtop version highlighted Volkswagen’s display at the Detroit Auto Show earlier this year.
Volkswagen says the E-Bugster’s electric motor delivers 85kW of power and the 28.3kWh lithium-ion batteries provide a maximum range between recharges of around 180kms.
Compared to hardtop versions of the latest Volkswagen Beetle, the E-Bugster version runs a Speedster look with a 90mm lower windscreen. It’s a two-seater with the space normally used fror the rear seat converted to house the lithium-ion batteries.
Naturally there are revised instruments suitable for the electric power source. There are also now front and rear bumpers. LED rear lights and – like all Volkswagen electric vehicles – the front DRLs are ‘C’-shaped.
The Volkswagen E-Bugster rides on 20-inch alloy wheels which require flared wheel arches, adding 30mm to the width compared to a regular Beetle.
