Volkswagen has released some new images and info that details the expanded range of 2017 Golfs following the initial reveal in November, which notably features updated design, new engines, standard LED tail lights and a more sophisticated Composition Colour infotainment system.
The German automaker has revealed the MK7.5 Golfs in their 5-door hatch guise as well as their wagon form (which they are weirdly calling ‘Variant’, at least in Europe). The powertrain options kick off with an new turbocharged 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine. Power might be just 63kW but VW is claiming an impressive 4.8-litres/100km fuel consumption figure.
More familiar is Golf 2.0 TDI 4Motion, which is now available with all-wheel drive and sporting the same 110kW turbodiesel four-cylinder previously. Again, it can be had as a 5-door hatch or a Variant (wagon), in either Trendline, Comfortline, and Highline equipment grades, like every other Golf.
On to more exciting things. Seen here as a 3-door hatch and Variant wagon, the new 2017 Volkswagen Golf R’s performance has been boosted with this update, increasing power from its 2.0-litre TSI turbocharged petrol engine to 228kW and 400Nm - a 7kW/20Nm increase - over the previous MK7 car and with its improved 4Motion all-wheel system can have the car sprint to 100km/h from rest in just 4.6 seconds.
