All mainland North American states in 16 days, 13,071kms, overall fuel consumption of just 3.02l/100kms and a new Guinness World Record – just an average couple of weeks for a Volkswagen Passat TDI –NOT!
The remarkable feat was achieved by North American duo of Wayne Gerdes and Bob Winger, driving a North American specification Passat produced at the German giant’s plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Previously the Guinness World Record stood at 3.46l/100kms.
No word on the diet or standard of motels encountered during the trip but it’s safe to say not all would be five-star!
