Volkswagen’s Passat Alltrack has been on sale in Europe for some time and has arrived in Australia in time to debut at the Australian International Motor Show (Sydney).
Volkswagen will launch the ‘SUV-ised’ Passat wagon next week and has promised a a sharp sub-$50,000 price tag.
Power comes from Volkswagen’s 125kW/350Nm 2.0-litre turbo-diesel driving all four wheels via 4MOTION and the seven-speed dual clutch DSG automatic transmission. With fuel-saving BlueMotion, fuel consumption is rated at 6.3l/100kms.
Of course the whole point of the Volkswagen Passat Alltrack is some off-road functionality. With ground clearance of 165mm, protection for the wheel arches and underbody and approach/departure angles of 16/13.6 degrees, the Passat Alltrack may not withstand the rigours of all Australian bush tracks but boat ramps and most 4WD destinations are definitely on its ‘To-Do’ list.
