With first deliveries still six months away, Volkswagen UK has opened the order books for the second generation New Beetle.
Interestingly, UK customers should expect to pay around the same price for the latest Beetle as they do for an entry-level Golf (the New Beetle is listed at £16,490).
Volkswagen UK says the new Volkswagen Beetle will be sold in three model grades – ‘Beetle’, ‘Design’ and ‘Sport’.
At launch, UK Volkswagen Beetle customers can select from two petrol engines – a 1.2-litre TSI with 142kW driving through a seven-speed DSG automatic, or a 1.4-litre TSI with 217kW driving through a six-speed manual transmission. A 2.0-litre petrol engine and two diesels – 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre – follow later in 2012.
Volkswagen UK expects one item on the Beetle options list to be a particularly hot seller – a 400W audio system specifically developed by legendary guitar makers Fender.
