Volkswagen Debuts E-Bugster – An Electric Beetle

Volkswagen North America has always been the driving force behind the reincarnation of the Volkswagen Beetle and the trend continues with the Detroit Auto Show highlighted by the world premiere of the E-Bugster, a zero-emissions electric version of the latest Beetle.

The two-seater is powered by a 85kW electric motor with a 28.3kWh lithium ion battery pack mounted behind the seats.

Volkswagen says the E-Bugster can deliver a range between re-charges of 180kms in urban driving, it runs brake energy regeneration and a quick-charge takes just 35 minutes. Full re-charging can be done at home (120V or 230V) with the charge cable located where the normal Beetle fuel door is situated near the C-pillar.

The Volkswagen E Bugster roadster sits 90mm lower than a conventional Beetle and is 30mm wider. It also features unique front and rear ends and 18-inch ‘Twister’ alloy wheels.

Inside is nicely crafted alloy trim and unique blue lighting.
