It’s enormous, dramatic, and beautiful. A precursor to a production model?

Mercedes-Maybach has been teasing its new concept car for long enough now, and we’re actually on the cusp of having the entire veil Germanically lifted at the car’s debut at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

Called simply the 6 and aptly measuring a full six metres in length, the luxury mega-coupe will likely mark the start of a renewed vehicle plan under parent company Daimler - a welcome change from what has only involved longer, more exclusive versions of the S-Class limousine in recent years.

Prior to this, a couple of very shadowy pictures were released showing a red two-door car with a very long bonnet and a tapered rear end. Now, though, new leaked images have surfaced via AutoExpress that show the full car, outside and in through its gullwing doors.

Given the immense length of the car and its presumed width, the 6’s cabin most likely has room for two extra seats behind the two front passengers and what’s probably a generous boot as well. However, its sheer size would mean that maneuverability would be a real thorn of an issue.

Some have already speculated that a production version will be introduced within the next 3 to 5 years, but our doubts remain as to whether a car this unapologetically can reasonably work in the world we live in. It’s no daily driver and rather is a brazen display of wealth, but still a six-metre car would need a skilled driver to thread through even the most seemingly benign of traffic jams.

The more likely outcome is that the 6 may indeed form a basis for Mercedes-Maybach’s near-to-mid-term future, but it’s long wheelbase may be reduced to a more conventional length to create a luxury coupe that would sit above the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe and to rival the Rolls-Royce Wraith, sparking another meta-rivalry between Daimler and BMW in the ultra-luxurious coupe category.
