Not a road car, but there will be plenty of Toyota interest at Melbourne’s Calder Park Raceway this weekend when world drift legend Fredric Aasbo competes in the Formula Drift Asia Championship event.
Aasbo will put his V8-powered Toyota 86 up against a field of 22 rivals in the biggest drift event ever held in Australia.
A ‘rock star’ of the sport, the Norwegian’s wild Toyota 86 harbours a 5.0-litre V8 from the Lexus IS F, race-prepared by TRD.
Aasbo competes in drift events throughout the world but this is his first visit to Australia. He uses the V8 Toyota 86 in Asia, a Toyota Supra in Europe and a Scion TC in North America.
The Australian Drift GP will be held at Calder Park on Saturday with six Australians fighting for a spot in Sunday’s Asia Championship event.
If you can’t get there to see the action live, tune-in to FOX SPORTS Asia or Speed TV from 4:00pm Sunday.
