Toyota continued its dominance of Australia’s new car market in May with sales of 15,928 units.
In fact the Toyota HiLux ute – for the 14th time in history – was Australia’s best-selling vehicle outright with sales of 3,178 for the month and Corolla, Camry, 86, LandCruiser 200, HiAce, Prado and Kluger all topped their market segments.
Toyota’s may result was a staggering 82.7 per-cent better than any other brand and with year-to-date sales of 80,213 vehicles, Toyota leads second-placed Mazda by 35,148 sales.
But it’s a stellar year for Mazda, comfortably number two with year-to-date sales of 45,065, some 5,265 ahead of third-placed Holden.
That’s up 5.9 per-cent on the first five months in 2014. And May was another record for mazda with total sales of 8,717 vehicles – no doubt buoyed by 1,035 sales of the all-new Mazda CX-3
Hyundai ranks fourth overall with year-to-date sales of 39,092 with Ford (27,559) number five.
Mitsubishi (26,855) has moved ahead of Nissan (26,314) to be our sixth most popular brand.
Overall Australian new car sales at the end of May are 1.3 per-cent down on the same period last year.
