Toyota Australia has used some of the biggest names in Australian motoring racing for the first official track debut of the Toyota 86 race series.
Steven Johnson, Leanne Tander and Aaron Seton drove a few laps in three Toyota 86 race cars at the Sydney 500 street circuit.
The demonstration coincided with the announcement that Dunlop's R-specification Direzza DZII*86 tyre has been selected after four-time Australian rally champion Neal Bates tested a range of tyres.
Dunlop Tyres Australia senior product and brand marketing manager Brad Fuller said the control tyre would cost $289.85 (including GST) with competitors allowed up to six new tyres per round.
"With an extensive history and legacy in motorsport, founded on performance and technology, Dunlop is proud to have been endorsed by Toyota as its partner in this exciting new racing category which is sure to thrill Australian motorsport crowds," Mr Fuller said.
The Toyota 86 Racing Series is expected to kick off in May 2016 at Winton raceway. There will also be rounds at Sydney Motorsport Park (August), Sandown (September), Bathurst (October) and Sydney Olympic Park (November).
To enter the series it will cost drivers $1,500 per round.
