Leaving pretenders behind.
When electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla released the ‘Ludicrous+’ software update, which allowed the Model S P100D to rocket from rest to 100km/h in a recorded 2.46-seconds, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said that there may still be ways to further boost the performance from its flagship model, and that it could eventually be able to crack 2.3-seconds.
He was right. After another update to the Ludicrous+ software, a Model S P100D managed to hit 100km/h from rest in just 2.38-seconds. This number, which permits the Model S to reclaim the title of fastest accelerating EV back from Faraday Future and their FF91, was achieved on a completely-stock factory-built customer car, without any special fettling, with the only change being the updated software.
Earlier today, we published a report on Electric GT’s stripped-down, race-ready Tesla Model S P100D hurtling from 0-100km/h in just 2.1-seconds. The Tesla we’re really excited about is courtesy of the Tesla Racing Channel on YouTube. And when you consider that the Faraday Future FF91 managed its claimed figures with a bare-bones beta testing car, you very quickly realise which company can talk the talk, and which one walks the walks.
Or runs the quarter mile.
