Model S may receive some love with bigger battery and advanced air filtration options.
Tesla Motors might be close to offering some new options for prospective Model S buyers to consider, possibly as soon as this week, if a report by The Verge is to be believed.
Their source says that the Model S sedan will be getting a larger capacity battery which can hold an extra 10kWh over the current highest-spec battery pack of 90kWh in the 90D and P90D variants.
Whether or not Tesla will introduce this more charge-dense battery with a boost in performance is unclear, but it has been known to happen when the P85D’s Insane mode was superseded by the P90D and its Ludicrous mode.
Aside from the battery boost, the Model S is also reported to soon include an option first seen in the Model X: Bioweapon Defence Mode. It is a system that removes harmful particles from the air before it enters the car, handy for driving through a nuclear disaster zone or zombie infestation.
Tesla says that the Model X’s air filter is 10 times larger than those found in other passenger cars and claims that it is 300 times more effective at filtering out bacteria, 500 times better at weeding out allergens, 700 times better with smog, and 800 times more affective at removing airborne viruses.
These new additions to the Model S list of specifications could also be joined by a reported alteration to the car’s nose along with LED headlamps and seat ventilation.
We’ll know more once Tesla’s changes officially break cover.
